The Scope of IOT wider than expected

     There are many countries working in the energy sector. The aim is to reduce the wastage of energy through powerful solutions. Internet of things - IOT might be a very powerful player here. We have home automation, smart building, smart cities etc which are based on the technology. The scope and the applications are wider than we expected!.

     With a wireless technology like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, we started to transfer the data in the beginning like PDF files, MP3 Songs and videos. Now we can control all Bluetooth based devices like wireless speakers, bulbs (Philips Hue) and smart TV etc which collectively we call home automation. But technology never stops here.

     The biggest players like Intel and other companies working for smart buildings and flats. The flat or building (like education campus) information like how much electricity utilizing per flat? how much water consuming? what is peak energy consumption time? etc are collected and used for a useful purpose.

     This is further expanding to smart cities to build smart parking, sending notifications from the government to citizens about area cleaning time, implementing smart energy meters to every house to track water, gas and electricity consumption, flood detection using sensors and to check water and air quality are some of the work the technology can handle.

What it can do?

     To collect huge data from all the sources is one of the tough task all the time. Analyzing those data for useful predictions is related to the machine learning technology. The algorithms need to provide multiple outputs. Example using weather sensor we might need to check the flood situations as well. So we need experts to right codes.

     The sudden spike in smart devices made everything Internet of things. Most of the wireless technologies work on Bluetooth as it works offline. The products like Amazon's Alexa, Google home and Apple's Homepod are best home automation players. But it needs further improvements in natural conversations.

     Since it is wireless it saves place and easy to use which made customers like them. We can control the connected devices using our smartphones. It is also possible to schedule the devices. Example, we can Schedule night bulbs to switch on between 7PM to 5AM. then we don't need to switch the bulb on and off again and again.

     The technology helps to save a lot of energy that is running out of negligence. The main activity lies in analyzing the data. Through the large collection of data, we can look where we can save the water/energy and how to implement in the city.
